Joanne has a passion for Mathematics and a natural ability to grasp a deep understanding of complex concepts. She is like a human calculator and her processing speed never fails to impress us.

Pre-Primary Mathematicians

During this term the children have been exposed to a number of activities dealing with sharing. This is a necessary prerequisite skill to teaching division. In one activity the children were asked to share a number of choc chips between two cupcakes. They were also asked to share an equal number of kites between a group of people. In another lesson the children were given fifteen match sticks and asked to share the match sticks equally between three playdough echidnas. In measurement the children have been using balance scales to weigh a number of concrete objects to develop the mathematical language of heavy and light. Other measurement tasks have involved capacity. The students were asked to fill a variety of containers with sand which was then used to develop the mathematical language of which containers hold more or less.

Joke of the week!
