In the time being, I will remain in the Acting position and Mrs Young will remain as Acting Associate Principal for the first two weeks, as Mrs Young will be taking Long Service Leave in Week Three. Mr Bibby will join our team in Week Three as Acting Associate Principal. Mrs Cobbledick will continue in Room 20, Year Two until the beginning of Week Five, Term Four.
Thank you!
Once again the term has flown by. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the enthusiastic, passionate and professional staff for another industrious and positive term. The term has been busy with numerous events and activities such as Book Week, Science Week, Health and Wellness Day, Interschool Cross Country, Spineless Wonders Incursion, Coding Club, Maker Space and Science Enrichment Program. Congratulations to students and staff for a great term and thank you parents for supporting your school. We look forward to seeing you all your smiling faces back at school on Monday 14th October.
Pizza with Staff
Congratulations to the students who had their names drawn out for pizza with staff. The students are exemplary role models following the school’s code of conduct, for being safe, responsible and respectful. They enjoyed pizza with staff. It is great to see so many students being pro-active and progressive role models to their peers.
Our Business Plan
We are currently revising our business plan for 2019-2021. Our Business Plan communicates to all staff, parents and the community the strategic direction of our school and what we want to achieve over a three year period. The Business Plan is currently being printed, we are hoping it will be ready to be distributed to families in Week One of Term Four.
Sustainability – Royal Show
Ms. Bennett and her Garden of Weedin’ team have two entries for the Royal Show garden competition this year – a vegetable cart and scarecrow. If you are going to the Royal Show be sure to check out the agriculture section. Check out the photos.
Year Six Parents
The National Assessment Program for Civics and Citizenship (NAP-CC) is undertaken by a sample group of Year 6 and Year 10 students. In 2019, the NAP-CC main study will be conducted during October and November. The assessment will be delivered online to a stratified random sample of schools. Approximately 339 Year 6 classes and 324 Year 10 classes, drawn from schools across Australia, will participate. In total, approximately 13,250 students will sit the assessments. The online assessment includes practice questions to familiarise students with the types of questions they can expect in the assessment. These include, but are not limited to, multiple choice, short answer and survey questions. Please read the following attachment for additional information.
Maintenance and Minor Works Program
Earlier this week the state government announced that it will inject $200 million dollars over two years for a new high priority maintenance and minor works program for public schools. We are currently in the first phase of this rollout which can be used for a range of improvements to school infrastructure. Joondalup Primary School has received $54,103 of the $35 million that was shared amongst schools. At Joondalup we are constantly improving and adapting our facilities and making them safer environments to learn, as well as more conducive to learning.

Congratulations to the 89 students who had 100% attendance in Term Three. That is a huge improvement from last term with 59 students achieving 100%. Joondalup Kid Award
Zane, Year 2
Zane is a hardworking, honest and kind student. He does his personal best in all activities and is a great example to his friends. Zane is a very kind person. He is always looking for ways in which he can help his friends. Zane is one of the first people to offer to do classroom jobs, even when the jobs are not very pleasant. Zane is the type of person who you want to have as your friend. It is an absolute pleasure to have him as a member of our class. We are very proud of you, Zane.
Student Councillors on the Radio
On Wednesday 11th September, our Student Councillors were asked to talk live on 89.7FM Radio. They did a fantastic job talking about current events, our school and even got to play their own music choices. Well done everyone.
Maths Award
Foram, Year 5
Foram’s mathematical brain constantly impresses all of us in Room 10. She displays an impressive understanding and knowledge of all concepts covered in class and is keen to extend herself. Foram you are a Mathematic Super Star.
Rooms 10 & 11 Mathematicians
This Term in Rooms 10 and 11, students have been learning how to compare, order, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and decimal numbers. We have been doing group rotations which have allowed us to work with the teacher as well as play fraction and decimal games, work on Mathletics and do some problem solving. Despite the class getting a little loud at times we are all able to remain engaged and are enjoying the different activities we get to do each day.
Maths Joke of the Week:
Who is the King of the pencil case kingdom?
The Ruler!
This term has seen much growth and student activity in our school vegetable garden. Several classes have planted seeds and seedlings and are looking after them as part of their HASS Geography outcomes. Their gardens have become special places they care for by creating sets of rules for their care and observing the growth and change of plants. They will then harvest and use the produce in cooking next term.
The after School Garden and Moorditj clubs have been very busy this term with general upkeep of the garden, along with planting and caring for the vegetables they will enter into the Perth Royal Show.
Room 20 have continued to be the ‘worm experts’ by collecting organic food scraps, preparing them, feeding the worms and upkeep of the worm farm. Next term will see another worm farm come into action as we endeavour to recycle most of our organic food scraps and move further along in our sustainability journey. If you have an interest in worm farming, then stay tuned as I have a planned information session coming up next term.
Our schools are entering 2 categories this year – the Sustainable Scarecrow and a wheelbarrow full of our produce. Come on down to the show and look what the Garden and Moordijt Clubs have grown and created. You can also vote for the people’s choice award. I am very honoured to have the dedication of a wonderful group of students, parents, grandparents and various staff members all contributing to these two projects. Stay tuned for photos from the Show in the next newsletter.
This week the Garden and Moorditj club members for Term 3 harvested vegetables to make their own pizzas and celebrate a fabulous term of ‘teamwork’.
Notes will be sent home for Term 4 Garden Club in Week 1 of next term. Numbers are strictly limited to 20, so return the forms as soon as possible.
Woolworths has kindly donated a display box and raised garden bed for collection of these seed packs. The schools would appreciate any donations. Drop them down near the collection box outside the office.
Once the seedlings are mature enough, they will be planted just inside the front school gates so you can observe the progress of the plants. Next term classes will have the opportunity to care and record their observations of growth.
Recycling Programs – Near the front office
Please continue to bring in:
- Batteries
- Mobile phones and accessories
- Dental hygiene packaging including toothbrushes
- Coffee pods (make sure they are DRY)
- Ring pulls from cans of drink
- NOTE: WE NO LONGER COLLECT BEAUTY CONTAINER OR PRODUCTS AS THIS WASTE STREAM HAS CEASED.
Remember that our Grow Free Cart is set up near the office.
"How does the cart work?" We have a simple answer: you give what you can, and take what you need. There are no prices, no bartering, no trading, no value. Like you would to family and loved ones.
What can I put on the carts?
- Homegrown or homemade produce: fruit, veg, herbs, preserves, eggs, etc
- Preferably grown with organic principles, without toxins. Grown with love is a strict prerequisite!
- Seeds, seedlings, cuttings and rootstock (Please label all, and heirloom seeds are best, as they can be saved from)
- All things gardening, whether it be gardening magazines, planters, worm tea, etc.
- Jars, paper bags and small boxes for seeds or produce.
Finally, a big thankyou to Kylie Granville and Bev Shaw (2 staff members) who have now volunteered to help with the after school garden club. We could not have run this as successfully without your help.
Happy gardening and recycling,
Sandra & Stacey – Sustainability Coordinators
The Year 1 students learned about Pop Art. They viewed the artwork of Andy Warhol and then created these great pieces of art. They began by drawing a strawberry. This was then photocopied, so they had four. Acrylic paint was used to add colour and paint markings to create the strong black lines.
The Pre- Primary students used complimentary colours to weave the bodies of these cute characters and then after adding the head, arms and legs embellished them with a variety of mediums.
The students in Pre-Primary and Years 1, 2 & 3 created close up pictures of monsters and sharks using simple lines and shapes. They added colour with oil pastels.
Mrs Sweet
Art Teacher
This term has been so much fun for our school, with so many activities happening that get the children involved like Science Week, Book Week and Wellness Day. Having activities like this available, helps children feel like they belong.
Being a part of the Joondalup Primary School community is a great way for you and your children to get the most out of their primary school life; helping them feel safe, supported, encouraged and included.
I have attached an article about “Belonging” from the Kids Matter website.
“A sense of belonging has been found to help protect children against mental health problems and improve their learning. Children who feel that they belong are happier, more relaxed and have fewer behavioural problems than others. They are also more motivated and more successful learners.”https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/mental-health-matters/belonging
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday and I can’t wait to see what Term Four brings!!
Miss Amanda
