Harmony Day and Ride to School Day
What a fabulous day! Children rode bikes and scooters, wore orange and celebrated being fit and healthy, and the diversity in their classrooms and community. The staff and children enjoyed being part of the ride around the school event and doing different activities in their classrooms. A huge thank you to Mrs Nerelle Phillips and Mrs Carol Perry who did an amazing job of getting everything in place for the day.
Interschool Athletics
Next week selected Year 3-6 children will represent the school at the Interschool Athletics Carnival against Currambine, Connolly and Beaumaris primary schools. The event is being held at Beaumaris Primary School.
Monday is the morning of jumps and throws and Thursday will be running races and team games. If your child is competing, please come along and cheer for the school. Remember that the children in the teams need to be at school at 7.30am so that we are ready to leave at 8.00am. Please meet in the undercover area.
Winning faction
On Wednesday we will be giving out icecreams to the winning faction. At this point in time, Blue are in front but Red is very close behind. If your children are hoarding faction tokens at home or they in the bottom of their school bag, please encourage them to bring them to school. Green and Gold have some ground to make up!
End of the school day
Please remember the end of the school day is 3.00pm. There are some times when families are going to be late (which we get) but the office is getting an increasing number of phone calls about children who need to go home minutes before 3.00pm. We make every effort to locate children and have them at the office but it is unrealistic if the arrangements are last minute or so close to the siren that we can’t locate them quickly. Please only pick up children if there is a legitimate reason.
ANZAC Day ceremony
Joondalup Schools will be holding their ANZAC Day ceremony on Wednesday 21 April 2021 at 9.15am. Please mark your diary and come along.
Tug of War
On Wednesday we did our faction Tug of War and it was lots of fun. It was great to see the Year 6s in their last Tug of War event and the staff finished off the day with a show of strength. Congratulations to all of the children who participated, cheered for their teams and displayed excellent behaviour. The results of the Tug of War will be announced at the Faction Carnival in Term 3 as these points will be added on at that event.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
Important - Student Online Permissions
As previously written in a newsletter, parent permission is required for the students to use specific types of apps and access websites whilst at schools. These websites and apps require logins where student information is stored outside of the Department. Please click on the link below to complete the form online.
Leaf study
The tuart tree grows naturally in the Joondalup area. The year one students studied a leaf from a tree. They used different art techniques while looking at the leaf. A pencil drawing, wax crayon rubbing and a print were done of the same leaf. The leaf was then pasted onto a piece of paper.
Mrs Sweet
Art Teacher
I have taken on the fulltime position of Science and Sustainability specialist for 2021 for Joondalup Education Support Centre and continue my journey as Joondalup Schools Sustainability Coordinator. This has enabled me to implement a school wide campus focus on sustainable practices and teaching. Many classes have volunteered to be responsible for areas such as paper collection, worm farming, composting, up keeping the Grow Free Cart, vegetable garden and vertical garden.
Our 2 bin system is in full swing with students being taught what goes into each bin.
The campus participated in School Cleanup Day in February and we are pleased to say we collected 17 less bags of rubbish than last year. Remember we are all responsible for keeping our school looking fabulous.
After School Garden Club
Our small but dedicated group of students, parents and staff come together every Monday afternoon from 3.15 to 4pm to look after the garden. We have prepared and planted the beds so next term we should be able to start harvesting. This week we had a planting celebration party which was enjoyed by all. Please see the Garden Club part of the Newsletter to download a form.
Big news is coming regarding our Recycling programs, so stay tuned!
Please continue to bring in:
- Batteries
- Coffee pods (make sure they are DRY and EMPTY). You can bag the grounds up and send to school as well.
- Ring pulls from cans of drink
- Plastic lids from bottles (wash and remove inner seal)

We have continued partnerships with WasteWise, WaterWise, SunSmart, Clean Up Australia, Bunnings Joondalup, Woolworths, The Worm Shed, Tucker Bush and Sustainable Schools WA amongst a few.
Happy gardening and sustainable thinking,
Sandra Bennett – Science/Sustainability Teacher (JESC). Sustainability Coordinator (Joondalup Schools)
