Principal's News - Special guests
Guess what? The School Captains have taken over this week’s newsletter. This week we wrote the newsletter and included everything that we saw that was happening around our amazing school.
Year 2 Pyjama Day
On Tuesday 12 August the Year 2s had a pyjama day because they had filled their sparkle jar to the top. They did lots of activities like reading books, playing with teddies, drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn. Benjamin from Room 19 said that his favourite things about the day were drinking hot chocolate and reading his Goosebumps book. Javier said that he enjoyed eating popcorn around the virtual fire and reading his Pokémon book. It was obvious that all of the Year 2s had so much fun.
Science Week
Last week was National Science Week. Our school had chosen to celebrate it by having Mrs Phillips organise fun activities for all of us so that we could explore this year’s theme ‘Food: Different by Design’. It honours the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables as well as the time and effort it is taken to get harvest from farms to forks. Some of the School Captains were honoured to help Mrs Phillips in running activities in the science lab. A few activities that we did were planting potatoes up in the nature play, milking cows, and egg on a spoon races. We would also like to thank Mrs Phillips for the time and effort she has put into organising all of the incursions, excursions and events she has put together so far this year. We are so lucky to have such a passionate science teacher who is willing to go above and beyond to engage us all in Science.
Faction School Sport
Everyone at Joondalup Schools are busy preparing for the faction carnival, which will be held on Friday 17th September. This year there is a new trophy that the factions can win by showing good sportsmanship and cheering for our factions. We can’t wait to see which faction will be the first to win this trophy! Important dates for the faction carnival:
- Monday 13 September – Long jumps – Year 3-6
- Tuesday 14 September – Distance Throws – Year 3-6
- Friday 17 September – Faction Athletics – PP-Year 6
All events commence 8.50am. Families are welcome to spectate and schedule for the events will be sent home in the coming weeks.
Choir One Big Voice Performance
The choir attended the One Big Voice performance at RAC arena on the 20 August 2021. There were 65 school choirs attending this event. We performed 10 songs in total, including ‘Jigsaw Family’ and Sia’s ‘Unstoppable’. There were seven amazing members of our school staff that attended, and we thank them for helping make our participation possible. It was very fun to be out in the city on a Friday night showing off our amazing singing talents. We would like to say a big thank you to Miss O’Connor and Mrs Butler for organising all of this for our exceptional school choir. We are so lucky to such a fabulous music teacher and education assistant.
Year 6 Camp Donations
We would like to say thank you to the P&C for your donations for our Year 6 camp. All the Year 6s are very excited for the camp and appreciate the donation to ensure that all students have the opportunity to attend.
Book Week
Joondalup Schools are currently celebrating Book Week. The Book Week dress up was today and we all loved seeing everyone dress up as their favourite character from a book. The Senior ESC students had their assembly today and it was a really excellent assembly; and it was clear that everyone by the audience. More photos to come next week!

From the Principal
Congratulations to the School Captains for an amazing school newsletter. I really appreciate the effort and time they have given to tell the school’s stories for the past fortnight. Thank you also to Miss Mercer who has been editor in chief! This is so good that I might have done myself out of a job. I wonder if I can delegate financial management to the Captains!!

Dear Parents,
You should have received your child's school photos this week. Please note the following:
- Magnetic photo frames and additional prints are slotted between the prints of your package.
- Key chains are packed separately and distributed by the school office to the classroom teachers, who then distribute to the students. Check with your teacher if you have not received yours as yet.
- Sibling photos (if applicable to your school) are delivered to the eldest child and placed inside their photo package as additional prints if applicable.
- Digital negative orders will be sent to your email address supplied within 3-5 days of the school photo delivery. Don’t forget to check your junk mail folders.
- You are still able to place additional orders via the Kapture website including orders for sports, music or special group photos taken on school photo day. Use the same school code as previously supplied.
If you ordered photos more than 10 days after photo day, your order will be handled separately and mailed directly to your home address within the next 28 days. Check your confirmation email for more information.
Kind regards

Food
The theme for science week this year was 'food different by design'. In Visual Arts we viewed the work of Wayne Thiebald. Thiebald is well known for his artwork of food.
The year one students drew fried eggs and the year two students drew cheese. Working with the element of value to imply 3D they coloured them in oil pastel. The students cut them out and pasted them onto black card.
