OSCAR Reading Club
Our School Cares About Reading – OSCAR Reading Club
This program is designed to enable nominated students to read with an adult in a friendly and supportive environment.
Aims of the OSCAR reading club:
- To increase the confidence, self-esteem and literacy skills in reading
- Increase fluency
- Increase word knowledge and vocabulary
- To inspire a group of voluntary helpers to provide direct instruction and increase support for students
- To increase community participation in schools
Parents who have volunteered to help out at OSCAR hear 2-3 students read and have a discussion with them about what they have read each time they visit. Each child’s session lasts approximately 10 minutes.
OSCAR Reading Club runs on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8.15am – 8.45am.
